Artist's Biography

Katie Kern, who grew up in Vienna (Austria) received classical piano lessons from her father for ten years from the age of seven. Self-taught, she learned to play the guitar at the age of 22.

After watching the movie Crossroads, she got into the blues. She had initially begun studying ethnology in order to study jazz guitar with Fritz Steiner for five semesters at the Vienna Conservatory from 2002.

Kern focused on country music from 2008 and went to Nashville for three months as a street musician, where she met musicians and continued to work annually for a while in the following years. In Vienna, she was active in her trio Angel Creek, with whom she released the album It Is going to Work Out. As a session musician, she worked for Bob Saporiti.

Since 2017 she has also been a member of the Viennese women's band Viennese Ladies. She is also active as a soloist. Latest release: „Twilight“ (March 2023): In the twilight of the times it is difficult to say whether dark night or a bright new morning awaits us.

Katie Kern's album "Twilight" conjures disturbingly beautiful images of Schrödinger's future: dystopian and at the same time hopeful for the challenges that lie ahead for humanity. Even if we drag tough shadows behind us, it can only mean one thing - the light is in front of us!
